Kauai is the oldest of the inhabited Hawaiian
islands (5 million years) as well as the greenest and the wettest.
It is also the site of the first recorded contact between Westerners
and the native inhabitants of Hawai'i (the English captain,
James Cook, came ashore at Waimea Bay in 1778). Many movies
with South Sea and Asian settings have been filmed on the beaches
and Valleys of Kauai. |
